Palm Breeze Villa – House Rules

Dear Guests,

Unfortunately, we have been forced to introduce a few house rules after previous guests left our villa in a very poor and extremely dirty condition. We regret that these rules are necessary, but we hope you understand that they are there to protect our home and to ensure that Palm Breeze Villa remains a beautiful and enjoyable place for everyone.

As long as you treat the villa and its surroundings with care and respect, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. We want you to have a wonderful and relaxing stay!

1. Check-in & Cleaning
When you arrive, you will be welcomed by our host, who is responsible for cleaning the villa before your arrival and after your departure.

Our host is also available for additional services during your stay, at an extra cost. For example, she can cook for you and your family: this costs D1000 for her time for that extra day, plus the cost of the ingredients for whatever you'd like to eat. If you would like her to come in for extra cleaning, this is also D1000 for her time for that day. If you would prefer to have the villa cleaned during your stay, daily cleaning can also be arranged for an additional fee. Please discuss this directly with our host.

2. Early check-in
Check-in time is 15:00. If you would like to check in earlier, this may be negotiable depending on the situation — however, this is not possible if other guests are checking out of the villa that same day, as we cannot rush them out.

If early check-in is possible, this needs to be arranged and confirmed at least 24 hours in advance, since our host also needs to travel to the villa to prepare for your arrival. The first hour before check-in (from 14:00) is complimentary. Any earlier than that will cost D500, to be paid directly to the host. Please note that early check-in is only ever possible when the villa is actually

3. Electricity
Electricity is a valuable and relatively expensive resource in The Gambia, and this is something we kindly ask you to keep in mind during your stay. To make the villa as self-sufficient as possible, we have installed 16 solar panels and a battery system. When electricity is used responsibly, this system should provide more than enough power for normal daily use.

The villa is also connected to NAWEC, the national electricity provider. We will put credit on the meter before your arrival, so you should not have to worry about electricity when you first arrive.

However, if you choose to run all air conditioners continuously throughout the day, together with multiple other high-energy appliances, the available electricity may not be sufficient. In that case, you will be responsible for purchasing additional CashPower. This can easily be arranged through the watchman. Please help us by switching off air conditioners, lights and other electrical appliances when they are not needed.

4. Villa Property & Belongings
Palm Breeze Villa is furnished with everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. You are welcome to use the furniture, appliances, kitchen equipment and other items in the villa. We simply ask that you treat everything with care and respect. Please clean appliances and kitchen equipment after use and leave them in a clean condition. All items belonging to the villa must remain in the villa when you leave. This includes, but is not limited to: Glasses and cups, Plates and kitchenware, Towels, Decorative items, Furniture, Appliances, Paintings and artwork, Other small household items.

Before your departure, our host will walk through the villa with you. If items are found to be missing or damaged beyond normal use, the cost of replacement or repair may be charged to the guest.

5. Number of Guests and Overnight Stays.
Palm Breeze Villa accommodates a maximum of 6 overnight guests. The number of guests staying at the villa must match the number of guests stated in the reservation. For example, if the villa is booked for 3 guests, only those 3 guests are permitted to stay overnight. If you would like to add an additional guest after making your reservation, please contact the host in advance. Any additional overnight guests must be approved by the host before arrival or before staying at the villa. The maximum number of overnight guests is 6. Under no circumstances are more than 6 people permitted to stay overnight at Palm Breeze Villa.

Visitors are welcome for a small gathering or celebration, provided that the property is respected and all visitors who are not included in the reservation leave at the end of the evening. The guest who made the reservation is responsible for all persons staying at or visiting the villa. Any unauthorised overnight guests may result in additional charges for the extra use of the villa and its facilities, as well as any additional cleaning, laundry, damage or other costs resulting from the stay.

6. Pets
Pets are not allowed inside the villa. We have a guard dog on the property and therefore cannot accept responsibility for any consequences or incidents resulting from bringing another animal onto the property. If a pet is nevertheless brought into the villa, an additional cleaning fee of €15 per day will be charged for every day the animal has been inside the house.

7. Swimming Pool
Please use the swimming pool responsibly and with respect. The pool has a maximum depth of approximately 1.40 metres. This means that no lifeguard is required or provided. There is no lifeguard at the swimming pool. Guests are entirely responsible for their own safety and for the safety of their children. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times when using the pool.

Please note that there are no major hospitals in the immediate vicinity, so we strongly encourage you to take appropriate care and precautions. The pool is intended for swimming and relaxing, not diving. Please do not dive into the pool.

8. Toilet & Plumbing
Please treat the toilets and plumbing with care. Only toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet. Do not flush wet wipes, sanitary products, paper towels, tissues, diapers, cotton buds or any other objects down the toilet.

Please also avoid flushing large amounts of toilet paper at once, as this can cause blockages. For your convenience, showers are located right next to the toilets. The plumbing system in The Gambia is not designed to handle these items and blockages can occur easily. If you are unsure whether something can be flushed, please ask our host.

Any blockage or damage caused by inappropriate items being flushed down the toilet may result in an additional cleaning or repair charge.

9. Check-out
When checking out, we kindly ask that you leave the villa in a reasonably clean condition. Specifically: Please place all used towels by the door of your bedroom. Please clean any used dishes and kitchenware — a dishwasher is available for your convenience. This helps our host prepare the villa smoothly for the next guests.

10. Cleaning
When the villa is not in reasonable condition, and we need extra cleaners to make the villa rentable again, the charge for this will be between €50 and €200 depending on the days we will need to clean the villa. Also if you damage the appliances or the furniture, we will ask you to reimburse these, so we can get it fixed before the next guests arrive. If we need to cancel the next booking, because it isn't possible to get it ready in time, these costs will be charged.

11. Drugs
Drugs are illegal in The Gambia. Guests are personally responsible for their own behaviour, and we cannot be held responsible for it. If you get into trouble with the authorities as a result, we are unable to assist you.

12. Payment
Please make sure your stay has been paid in full before you arrive at the villa. If payment has not been received, access to the villa will be denied.

13. General Respect for the Villa
Please treat Palm Breeze Villa as you would your own home. We kindly ask you to:

·        Keep the villa reasonably clean and tidy.

·        Avoid damaging furniture, walls, doors or other property.

·        Use appliances responsibly.

·        Keep doors and windows closed when using the air conditioning.

·        Switch off air conditioning and lights when leaving a room.

·        Do not remove items from the villa.

·        Report any damage or problems to our host as soon as possible.

We want you to enjoy Palm Breeze Villa to the fullest. These rules are simply in place to protect the villa and ensure that future guests can enjoy it just as much as you do.

Thank you for treating our home with care and respect, and we hope you have a wonderful stay at Palm Breeze Villa!
